Our goal in this project was to help WorkSafe understand how they can best support Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) in Aotearoa. WorkSafe wanted to better understand the needs of HSRs, what support and training they currently receive, and how WorkSafe could help them function better in their HSR roles.
We gathered insights from HSRs using empathy conversations and onsite walk-throughs at three meat processing plants. We then conducted co-design workshops with HSRs, as well as with government organisations and health and safety providers.
We synthesised all of these insights into recommendations for WorkSafe, using infographics to convey the key themes. The recommendations are being used to guide change at a systems level.
